Inspection and evaluation of NDT data-Nuclear In-Service program. With origins in the nuclear industry, the management and project teams of De-Tect Unit Inspection, have extensive experience in the ultrasonic inspection of austenitic materials at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
Our capabilities encompass the process of inspection, including design of NDT techniques and development of inspection procedures.
De-Tect Unit Inspection provides a regular back up service to Rotek NDT of Rosherville, a division of Eskom Enterprises to meet their NDT centre line contractual obligations. Our people have assisted Rotek at Lethabo, Hendrina, Duvha and Matla, and various other Power Stations with the ultrasonic and surface inspections of high and intermediate pressure steam piping during outages. Additionally De-tect unit inspection personnel form part of the phased array teams inspecting for turbine blade root failures.
De-Tect Unit Inspection is the company of choice to provide ultrasonic services to OEM's, when they perform the ultrasonic inspections of the high pressure and intermediate pressure turbine rotors notably at Lethabo and Matla Power stations during General Overhauls.
Phased Array Techniques and Automated Ultrasonic Interpretation
DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION recently held the first ever phased array training course in South Africa. The demand for the use of ultrasonic phased array NDT technology is increasing rapidly and as a result the number of competent personnel available to use it has to increase accordingly.
A leading training provider Lavender International from the UK was brought in by the company to train personnel to level II on the Olympus omniscan MX PA unit and Tomoview analysis software.
At the end of the course candidates are fully prepared for international PCN(EN473) examination or employer based SNT-TC 1A exams. The company now has six trained UT phased array technicians.
Recently as a skills development initiative, PetroSA Capital Projects division in partnership with local Inspection and Non Destructive Testing companies embarked on an offshore skills training and development project.
This was successfully completed with the final pipe laying operations on one of the phases of the SOUTH COAST GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.
After a formal tender procces DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION was one of the NDT companies whose personnel were trained by PetroSA in Rotterdam and thereafter, formed part of the Automated Ultrasonic inspection team offshore during the pipe laying operations, approximately 100kms off the coast of Mosselbay .
This successful initiative has resulted in DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION obtaining highly specialised skills in the interpretation of Automated Ultrasonic Inspection (AUT) techniques.
DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION is one of the largest NDT/Inspection Companies in sub Saharan Africa. It is an approved third party inspection (SANAS) and ISO 9001:2000 certified company. It employs over three hundred personnel and have a few NDT level III's on their payroll.
DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION enjoys the best reputation for specialised NDT especially in the ultrasonic field. It is the only high technology NDT company currently specialising in Guided Ultrasonic Inspection and Phased Array Inspection.
DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION performs all aspects of inspection, i.e. basic radiagraphy (gamma) to Guided Ultrasonic testing, Phased Array Ultrasonic testing, Tank Floor Inspection, Positive Material Inspection, Time of Flight Inspection (TOFD), Low Proximity Radiography (Lo-Rad) and SCAR radiography.
Included in the company assets are:
- Two Omniscan Phased Array units
- Five Spectro Positive Material Inspection Units
- One Time of Flight unit (TOFD)
- Twenty Eight Low-Rad systems
- Two SE 16 Guided Ultrasonic Units
