
DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION recently held the first ever phased array training course in South Africa. The demand for the use of ultrasonic phased array NDT technology is increasing rapidly and as a result the number of competent personnel available to use it has to increase accordingly.
A leading training provider Lavender International from the UK was brought in by the company to train personnel to level II on the Olympus omniscan MX PA unit & Tomoview analysis software.
At the end of the course candidates were are fully prepared for international PCN(EN473) examination or employer based SNT-TC 1A exams.
The company now has six trained UT phased array technicians.
Recently as a skills development initiative, PetroSA Capital Projects division in partnership with local Inspection and Non Destructive Testing companies embarked on an offshore skills training and development project.
This was successfully completed with the final pipe laying operations on one of the phases of the SOUTH COAST GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.
After a formal tender process DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION was one of the NDT companies whose personnel were selected thereafter, and formed part of the Automated Ultrasonic inspection team offshore during the pipe laying operations, approximately 100kms off the coast of Mosselbay.
This successful initiative has resulted in DE-TECT UNIT INSPECTION obtaining specialised skills in the interpretation of Automated Ultrasonic Inspection (AUT) techniques. The Western Cape division of the company is additionally involved in long term specialised training initiatives for the Nuclear field, where this division has been actively involved since 1995, specializing in the inspection of nuclear components and pipework.
The board of directors have pledged commitment to sound management, skills development and reinvestment for the future of NDT in this country. A fully equipped state of art training centre has been set up in Meadowdale Germiston at the company's premises for specialised training. This centre of excellence will focus mainly on the high tech NDT training requirements and continual skills development of all the company personnel in all areas of operations.
